Close Encounter: Drink an Iceberg

Stock No. 36-OQICEBERG
CAD$ 249.99

10,000 years is a long time, but it's the amount of time it takes to form the icebergs that are brought to Newfoundland each spring. Get a first-hand glimpse of these majestic icebergs and see just how magnificent they are.

As you approach each iceberg you can see every striation, and each line and crack tells a story of the icebergs personal history. From your kayak you can hear the iceberg... it snaps, crackles, and pops like a bowl of cereal. It dawns on you that this piece of ice is alive, but not for much longer. Soon, it will have all melted away in the open ocean, beyond the eyes of humanity. Once back on  the zodiac the skipper fetches a piece of the iceberg “to cool your drink later!” he laughs. It’s a long way to go for an ice cube, but the ice maker back home doesn’t have much on this, does it?

1 - What should I bring? At Ocean Quest we like to make it as easy for you as possible so we have most everything you need for adventure success. The only thing you will want to make sure you have is clothing appropriate for the day; please bring additional layers and rain gear as well as a warm hat and gloves, Sunglasses and Sunscreen. If you are kayaking, please bring along an extra change of clothes and a towel for afterwards. We request that all other items be left in your vehicle or locked in our office. One steadfast rule on our RHIB's is that you must assume anything you bring along will get wet!

2 - Should I bring my camera? Cameras are encouraged! However, please make sure it is waterproof or you have some kind of dry-bag or water proofing case. Also please make sure you have a way to secure it to your person. Last year alone, we watched at least 3 GoPro Cameras gently sink their way to the ocean floor with no way of recovering them.

3 - Is tipping the skipper/guides appropriate? Although it is not necessary to tip the crew, we are confident that you will be so thrilled with their efforts that you will want too! The crew works hard to ensure your adventure is safe, ecologically responsible, and fun. They really appreciate any show of gratitude.

4 - I get sea/motion sickness, is this trip for me? Last year we only had a few people who got "sick" out of hundreds of adventurers. We do recommend that if you do plan to take any type of anti-sickness medication, please read the directions carefully. Many of these remedies need to be taken long in advance of your departure. It is a good rule of thumb in any case to avoid large meals before taking this adventure.

Please be advised that Ocean Quest reserves the right to cancel this trip at anytime. If we cancel you get a full refund.

What happens when you cancel?

  • If you cancel your booking within 14 days of the trip departure the booking is non-refundable.
  • Prior to the 14 day booking deadline you will receive a full refund less 25%.

PLEASE NOTE: In the event of no iceberg in our vicinity, will go ahead with sea cave & sightseeing.
